We have special events which we plan at The Sanctuary and we also go out with our animals visiting various events.

This page illustrates the events we have held and the events we have attended and how popular our animals were at these events.

EASTER WEEKEND

6th, 7th, 8th and 9th April 2007

We had a very busy Easter weekend, thanks in no part to the wonderful weather.  The sun shone all weekend and we hope all our visitors had an enjoyable time.

The children, particularly enjoyed meeting our new baby chicks and when it was time to go and meet the rabbits, the enclosure was so full of children there was hardly any room for the rabbits!    The donkeys also appeared to enjoy their daily grooming sessions, as much as the children and the egg & spoon races were well supported.

The face painting was a huge success, here are some of the children:

Once again, the chicken and turkey races were very popular and well supported, here are Sunday's races:

WINLATON WEST LANE COMMUNITY PRIMARY SCHOOL

Saturday 24th March 2007

We had a great time at the Winlaton School Easter Fair!   We took along with us Monty the corn snake and our giant african millipedes, which were very popular with children and parents alike.  Most of the children were very forthcoming in  handling both the snake and the millipedes.

BBC BLUE BUS

Friday 28th July 2006

The BBC Blue Bus broadcasts three hours of live radio every weekday from somewhere in the North East and on the 28th July they visited The Sanctuary.

This was Ian Robinson's second visit and this time he conquered one of his fears as he handled Monty our corn snake, although his 'on air' description of Monty being as fat as his arm, was a 'slight exaggeration'.  We hope they will come back again in 2007 - this time we have a tarantula for him!!!

CARLISLE PARK, MORPETH

Saturday 24th June 2006

We had an excellent day at Carlisle Park.  There were many varied stalls to visit to learn all aspects of the countryside and its animals.

Our snake, tortoise and rabbit were very popular with the children, who were very interested to handle and learn about these animals.

Pony Care & Stable Management

The Pony Care & Stable Management Course held on Saturday 30th September, 2006 was attended by 12 children.  They learned all aspects of looking after their own pony from Laurie, a British Horse Society Assistant Instructor.

The children all had a wonderful day and appeared to enjoy every moment.   Strangely enough the mucking-out was especially popular and they threw themselves into that task with great enthusiasm!

They also enjoyed a picnic lunch and left clutching a Certificate of Attendance and a horsy 'goody bag' - the perfect end to an enjoyable and educational day.

EASTER WEEKEND

EASTER SUNDAY AND MONDAY, 2006

The beautiful weather over the Easter weekend, brought lots of visitors to The Sanctuary.

We had some family fun on the Sunday and Monday.   The first event was the chicken race, followed by the turkey race.  Visitors were invited to bet on which chicken or turkey would win the race, for a small charge and the winners won a small prize.   Our problem is that our chickens and turkeys are so used to being surrounded by people, they didn't want to run, so Graeme, one of our animal carers had to chase them along the 'racecourse'.   Decide for yourself how successful he was!

Later in the day we had egg and spoon races for children and adults and it was fun to see the parents joining in too, although it was touch and go whether the fathers would be able to stop in time when they reached the finish line!!!

BLUE REEF AQUARIUM, TYNEMOUTH

On the above dates one of our volunteers spent the weekend at the Blue Reef to raise awareness of our work with indigenous wildlife and unwanted pets.   She took along with her a hedgehog and a snake, which were very popular with the Blue Reef visitors.   We would like to thank everyone who gave generously to our cause and also those who very kindly adopted an animal at The Sanctuary to help.
